America’s Tallest and Shortest States

Human height is a very popular subject that has been around for centuries or even millennia. Even since the dawn of time, both men and women would feel intimidated by a taller person. This is simply how our genetics are wired. But, we are not savages anymore and will live in a modern society where physical appearance is not that important anymore. However, there are still some leftover benefits of being a tall person. But, there are also some benefits to being average or shorter than average. To delve deeper into the subject, we are going to talk about America’s tallest in the shortest states.

There have been hundreds, if not thousands of studies to find out which country has the tallest people around the globe. But, there is no more need to talk about that because most of us know that it is the Netherlands. Averaging over 175 cm which easily puts them on top of the list. But, since that question is already solved, it is more interesting to talk about the different states in America.

Believe it or not, but there can be a lot of difference from one state to another. You would think that most people in America would be around the same height, but that is not actually true. This is why I find this subject so interesting and why I decided to talk about the tallest and shortest states.

Alabama – tallest men

Source: al.com

Alabama is located in the southeastern region of the United States. It neighbors with Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia.

After several studies in 2016, experts found out that Alabama may have the tallest man in the entire United States. With an average of over 175 cm or 5’10”, that makes them rank one when it comes to men. The height of women is at an average of 164 cm or 5’4″ and 179 cm for men.

However, we still do not have exact evidence or explanation of why Alabama would have such a high average. The history of Alabama shows that people that settle here were either French, British, or Spanish. Today, 65% of the Alabamians are white, 26.6% are black and less than 3% are Hispanic. This information does not exactly relay any kind of strict evidence why Alabamians are so tall.

For all we know, it could be completely random or there might be some explanation that we still have not figured out.

South Dakota – tallest women

The tallest women in the United States can be found in South Dakota. It is located in the Midwest region of the US which makes explaining Alabama even more difficult. These two states are so wide apart, we cannot find any kind of correlation of height between these two. I think it is safe to accept that the explanation is completely random.

The average height for women is measured somewhere around 167 cm or 5’5″. This value might not be as high as men, but when you compare it to the female average around the world, it is quite impressive. But, just like Alabama, there is no direct evidence on why this is. As already said, it is located in the Midwestern region and was originally discovered by the French Canadians known as the La Vérendrye Brothers. In other words, South Dakota was first discovered by French people but was soon mixed with the British after Thomas Jefferson explored the region and it was finally purchased by the government.

Keep in mind, just because you are from South Dakota or Alabama, does not mean that you are destined to be tall. Our genes determine most of our physical attributes and you cannot exactly do anything to change those genes. However, there are some things you could do to improve your physical appearance. By working out, eating properly, and being overall healthy, you might actually increase your height.

Assuming that you are having trouble accepting how you look, you should consider getting into serious training that will put your body to the test, and maybe you should start implementing steroids as well such as the ones that can be found at Amaassn.org.

California or Hawaii – shortest states

I decided to put both California and Hawaii as the shortest states because there is not much of a difference between these two. I am not sure whether I was unable to find out the real difference between these two or maybe they are just completely equal. I am sure that with newer and extensive studies, they would be able to find out which of these has a shorter height average.

Both of these states average around 177 cm for men and 163 cm for women. It might not seem like a lot of difference when compared with Alabama, but a 2 cm difference in average is a lot. Hawaii is quite a diverse place and maybe even the most diverse state in the US. Almost 40% of the people in Hawaii are Asian, around 25% are white, 10% are native Hawaiian, 9% are Hispanic, and so on. There is a lot of differences in race and nationalities in this place, but I would assume that both Asian people and native Hawaiians dropped the average height for both men and women.

California has completely different values, but it is also quite racially diverse. 40% of the residents here are Hispanic/Latino, around 38% are white and 15% are Asian. It is obvious that the state is quite diverse, but this information does not exactly explain why the average height is so low.

Keep in mind, both California and Hawaii are places that are frequently visited and all kinds of people travel there to live a new life. This kind of popularity to this place may be the reason why there is such a difference in height when compared to Alabama. Alabama is not exactly the place where everyone wants to live.

In the end, we should not obsess too much over the height of people. There are a lot more important things to worry about and much better ways to judge people. The height of the man or woman will not tell you anything about the person.
